Welcome to StraitLeap
Neighborhood Planning

The Northeast Bronx is experiencing changes that will shape how residents live, travel, and connect with their neighborhoods. With new development, expanded transit, and ongoing neighborhood planning underway, now is an important time for community members to get involved and help guide what comes next.

Several major projects are expected to be completed by 2030. The White Plains Road Neighborhood Plan will bring new housing, business opportunities, and public investment to Wakefield, strengthening local infrastructure and services. The MTA’s Penn Station Access Project will add four new Metro-North stations in Hunts Point, Parkchester/Van Nest, Morris Park, and Co-Op City, making travel to Manhattan and surrounding areas faster and more accessible. In addition, the MTA announced plans in June 2025 to upgrade three existing Bronx Metro-North stations to meet accessibility standards. Wakefield Village will introduce a transit-oriented community with new housing, retail spaces, and a community facility, all surrounded by green spaces.

The Transformation of Bronx Urban Corridors

Bronx corridors like Fordham Road, East Tremont, and White Plains Road are driving change across the borough. Each corridor is shaped by local businesses, residents, and community organizations, creating distinct identities.

These corridors serve as centers for culture, commerce, and connection. Together, they reflect the direction of the Bronx’s growth and the role communities play in shaping that future.

The Northeast Bronx is at the center of this progress. StraitLeap will highlight this corridor to keep the community informed, share how changes may impact neighborhoods, and create space for residents to engage and participate.

This page will serve as a source for updates, conversations, and connections focused on Bronx corridors—beginning in the Northeast Bronx.

Why the Northeast Bronx Matters

The Northeast Bronx is experiencing growth that will influence how communities connect, support local businesses, and tell their stories. What happens here helps shape daily life and long-term community development.

We will highlight areas that include community engagement, collaboration, and local progress.

The White Plains Road Neighborhood Plan launched in May 2025, with the first public workshop held on November 13, 2025. This early phase focuses on listening to the community members that know the corridor best—residents, local workers, small business owners, and community organizations.

Led by the New York City Department of City Planning in partnership with local officials, the plan will guide the future of White Plains Road from Adee Avenue to the Bronx–Mount Vernon border. The goal is to support new housing, local jobs, small businesses, safer streets, improved infrastructure, and the character that makes this part of the Northeast Bronx feel like home.

Community input is essential. If you live, work, shop, or care about White Plains Road, now is the time to get involved. More workshops, conversations, and surveys are coming, and your voice will help shape what this corridor becomes in the years ahead.
